Alash, Chirgilchin, and Oktai were the featured performers at a private concert for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prince Albert II of Monaco. The two leaders visited the archaeological excavation of the fortress in Por-Bazhyn, Tuva, and the concert took place at the archaeologists' camp. This video from Russian TV shows some hightlights of the event. It opens with the group of musicians throat singing. Putin tells one of the musicians that he wouldn't have believed it [throat singers producing multiple pitches] if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes. There is a short clip of Mongun-ool Ondar of Chirgilchin explaining that the songs are about their native land, horses, and girls. Sean Quirk sings a solo in the kargyraa style, and he chats with Putin about how he came to Tuva to study music and decided to stay. [Read more at NewsLab.
